Something Odd I Found…

I found something weird in my notifications and it has something to do with comment liking. Here are the notifications for today.

Capture.PNG

What I want to point out is what I marked in yellow.

Why that’s odd for me:

  1. it looks like a link, not a username
  2. all of them are similar, except the third section (before the “.ru” part)
    1. One person could be liking my comments, but with different accounts (there is one account that has liked two comments)
  3. the second part (after the “www.”) is not appropriate for this blog.

What I could expect:

  • they are a comment spammer
    • comments may not be in english (hence the “.ru” part)
  • they try to get people to visit their site that’s probably inappropriate (hence the second part)

I don’t share my notifications (except for blog updates), but that doesn’t mean your username will be hidden/unknown. If it’s really odd like the ones above, then I will post a picture of my notifs for all to see. This blog is not a forum/community for all things in general (everything that does not relate to Fantage).

The good thing is that I currently have comments disabled for non-WordPress users, so I don’t need to worry about spam comments right now. Well, the person with the weird usernames who liked my comments could comment anytime since those are WP account usernames, but I manage all the comments and I check for spam now and then. If there was a comment that I never saw, that means Akismet blocked/deleted the comment as spam. I cannot see comments Askimet has deleted, so they are never approved.

Comment spam, then I will take pictures of the comments and put them on the Spam Comment Examples page and your submitted name, email address, and IP address will be there for all to see.

I don’t need to mention this again, since you all probably understand it by now.

Anyway, please do not make usernames that are inappropriate and/or look like a link, because then I would post a picture of the notifications that contain the username(s) when I see them in the notifications.

      1. Yes, but they were spamming comments through pornographic links. I’ve always deleted it. It’s kind a annoying though. I keep deleting but they keep posting weird porn links. I have a pic of one of the comments. I didn’t have delete it yet it’s still in my spam. It’s the newest weird comments I have

        1. Oh… Have you tried to change the setting for allowing people without a WordPress account to comment? I have, and every time I uncheck it, there’s spam… At least When I got the notifications from them, the setting was checked.

            1. I think, they were you’re email followers. Do you have email followers and it later become a wordpress member? Cause I have one before. It is the one who liking my posts. Weirdly commenting links. This one happened back in September 2017. His username tttubbuww — if u click this user it goes to non child safety zone even teens though.

              1. Have you tried to set filters for the comments? I recommend to require users to fill out the username and email address boxes when commenting, for your benefit. I have a page where I put spam comments (named “Spam Comment Examples” located under “Info for Commenting” on my blog), and I would look up information about their IP address and email address. I did find some interesting things from a bit of searching. I never cared about the links and I wouldn’t click on them in case if there’s a virus or something (or if the page is inappropriate). At least there’s Akismet that filters the comments and deletes the definitely-spam comments (due to being set to “strict”), so I don’t need to deal with those.

              2. Yes, I have tried it. Actually I am using those fill the form box. Actually their emails were weird. There emails have (.com, .ue,.ru) in the ending of their emails. I have always check my blog respondents email to be sure. They are not spam or not. Mostly they were spam. I have the most spam comments last year which I delete them all. It was very tiring. Actually, you have 2 options for askimet the strict one or the safe one. You can able to restrict the users comment if it’s not capable to your web/ blog. You can go to the “ admin and go to the settings> click “discussion” go to the wide box below which is Go to askimet option> choose the [strict]. Saved it. ( you can used a mark down though> WordPress have a tighten your security banner up to the admin site. You can click it if you want your blog is more safe through spammers 🙂

              3. Huh… I do the same thing. I use the strict setting for Akismet, and it does a good job for deleting some of the spam and filtering the pending comments for me. I haven’t tried the markdown thing, though. How to find that setting?

              4. I only have Akismet, and I can’t get other plugins since this blog is free (not paid for). I don’t mind allowing comments from WordPress users only, since that reduced plenty of spam (no spam from non-WP users and unverified WP accounts).

              5. Yes, I agree to your statement both of our blog were free and could not used the plug ins. We can prevent those spammers. By askimet. Which they were advertising their own links. That is not satisfying. We can make are blog more safe if we done a great strict and secured blog. To unverified user could be a (hacker) or something. Like the one who liked your post and in fantage related with weird username, oh it’s not weird but freaky. I don’t know why they were doing this but. If it creeps you up. You can report it. Like the user I was talking about. I have just deleted or reported those person.

              6. Whenever I let non-WP users comment, I get random comments like the ones on the “Spam Comments Examples” page (under “Info for Commenting” in the menu of my blog). I don’t mind getting likes on my comments, but some of the names catch my attention and I post something like this. I don’t know how they found my comments, since those were on the posts of someone else’s blog (but how did they find that blog? No clue.).

              7. You can report the comment by using a comment plug in. But if you are free user you can report their own sites. If they linked their username. And redirect to their malicious web https://en.support.wordpress.com/report-blogs/
In my friends blog she put a html code to make a recaptacha for those people who wants their blog safe to spams. I don’t know how she done it but her blog is free. https://www.google.com/recaptcha/intro/android.html I am trying to do that recaptacha thingy but I don’t know how. So yeah.

              8. That only works if they have a WordPress blog, but there’s still ways to report non-WP blogs. I still haven’t figured everything of WordPress yet.

Try to use less links, since I found your comments marked as spam.

            2. Oh. Just like what I experienced… I did get followed by a random person (with a verified account), but I removed them since they were a business person (according to their picture) and most-likely does not know Fantage.

    1. Well, I had commenting disabled for all non-verified WP accounts/users, so there weren’t any comments from these accounts/user(s). They just liked some comments, but their usernames are what caught my attention.
